Question LWB VS SWB - Door panel question.

What is the difference between rear door panels from say a 300sd or 300 seas compared to an 300 sdl or 560 sel? I am in the process of finding a replacement interior (mine is shot from 25 yrs of arizona sun) and all's i can seem to find is interiors out of long wheelbase cars. Not a problem except I would need short wheelbase rear door panels, carpet, and headliner right? Any ideas on my grief?

Thanks!

What color do you need? I have an 82 300SD parts car with 4 interior door panels.

Though they are hard to come by, they did make short wheelbase cars with the updated interior. I'd hold out for that.

IIRC all 560SELs have heated reclining back seats. The recliner mechanism can be adapted to a SWB car as can the heaters ('just' wiring and switches). 420SELs typcially don't have these options. The interior from a 91 300SE would be a more direct swap.

In case you didn't know, you can't use 81 SD switches and wiring with 91 front seats. I don't know if you can swap 91 seats onto 81 seat bases (don't forget to remove the headrest drive cables if the 81 doesn't have motorized headrests). That'd be a lot easier than moving over all the wiring and relays and whatnot.

Aren't all 126 headliners the same color? Only the bows are color matched.

Ya, I recall reading the 91s memory controllers were different, less analog stuff as I recall.

I have a set of seat controllers I took off the 1991 350SDL seats I put in my car (reverted them back to a basic system).....and they are purely analog (I opened them and looked)....no fancy electronics, just a glut of relays. The things weigh like 5lbs apiece!

There is an 87 560SEl at our PNP. 136,000 miles. was in perfect condition, just a R/F damaged and corner of hood etc... fixable. this a Black on black with perfect leather, not cracked or worn. I pulled that quick.

wish I had known you were looking for a black interior.

Both right doors have been removed

I was there yesterday and the rear panels were on the floor with a bunch a junk, not sure of the condition now. I know you are looking for a later model. but man this thing was a garage queen.

After I got the seats home. I discovered I now have heated seats for the 84SD.

There is a 190E with the most perfect sand color (light creamy) interior. that was just set in the row yesterday. I think it had a little over 100,000 miles.
