Exclamation So, I went to the track today.....

in the '87 300D
and ran 3 times.

#1 18.6 @ 68.33
#2 18.3 @ 74.62
#3 17.8 @ 76.43

it was HOTTTTTT today (high 80's/ low 90's & high humidity)

temp never went above the next white bar (above 80), and its gotten there in traffic, with the air on...

I felt it was running very nice, but are these the numbers I should be seeing?!

I've had the car for a week, and the first OM603 i've driven. ever.

You should be seeing ~11s for 0-60.

I want to take my 300E to the track sometime.... I'm curious what it can do.....considering I can easily pass 90 on a freeway onramp......it'd be fun to find out! I'm guessing a 95-110mph quarter mile is not unreasonable.....it can reach 113 in third gear!

I know my 300SD with its old trans/torque converter setup could pull a 12.5 second 0-60....no idea now with its high stall converter....perhaps faster? It sure feels faster...

I think the 617 has a good advantage over the 603 since it has more torque off the line......they can really pull from 0-20

mine was really winding up, chirped on the first shift, and all you could hear was diesel clatter, and turbo as I passed the crowd... it was lovely, got people asking some questions after...

as for the 0-60. I guess I'll have to measure that with the GPS, as the track just measures in 1/8th & 1/4 with a couple times as for reaction, and first 30 & 60 ft.

0-55 on your car was originally 8.5seconds, a healthy run-in one will do at least as well.

Seing thay you're running about another 10seconds to hit 76 on your best time, I'd say you're off a little but not terrible.

There are a couple of guys here who've had their '87s at the track, but I don't think any were completely stock so it might be difficult to get a perfect comparison.

What is the nearest track around here to do such tests?

Ya, I don't think Grattan's track is really set up for that. It's a fun track though!

No Grattan is a circuit track. Lots of fun, always good to show up for an SCCA solo event to get some track time on the street cars.

I've always preferred it over the "go straight and floor it" of drag-racing or the "stand on it and turn left" of toilet-bowl racing.

I've thought about the spare set of wheels, and doing some drifting @ Kilkare, same place I did my 1/4 @...

the '87 likes to break em loose while wound up.

if you make 90, I'd like to see that. My friends '04 E500 with ecu flashes barely hit 102 and ran a 13.49.

Well, most freeway ramps are a pretty good downhill slope.
