rear springs w124 87 300d question

Do i need one of those compressor type tools to install new springs in the rear of my w124?
Or will the old ones just drop out and new ones just fit right in???

To get enough clearance to remove the rear springs without a compressor you will need to remove the shocks, detach the sway-bar link, and un-bolt the subframe so that it can move down some. Easier to use a spring compressor.
