E300TD weight sensor passenger seat, can we bypass it?

Hello,
What is the purpose of the weight sensore on the passenger seat? Is it to save an air bag if in a crash as it won't deploy if no one seat there?
Can we electronicly bypass it with a little resistance?
Thank you.
Olivier

Serves 2 purposes: Saves the airbags if no one is present in the seat and two, saves the infant in a child seat if it happens to be installed in the front.

I'm sure it can be easily bypassed but I can't think of a practical reason why. I don't think airbags go off needlessly...

Hello Evan,
Thank you. I was just wondering as I swap my cushion seat yesterday and broke the sensor, I repair it but don't know how long it will last?
The sensor doesn't recognise the child seat on mine, its an old one, it recognise the passenger only ( I think) as there is no transpondeur child seat available?
Might be wrong?
I'm still with the "EGR off" MOD from you. Happy. Thank you.

Possibly I mis-spoke. I'll have to look at the manual and see how it works - by weight or some sort of transponder.

Good to see the EGR mod is still working for you. Mine is too!

Mine is weight only. It was tricky to fix it as the metal band conductor is really thin and protected with a plastic layer.
I was able to open the plastic in half but the side that stayed attach to it was the conductor side, what was left uncovered was the black non conductive side of the "tape". Luckily enough I had some acetone and it dissolved it, revealling the metal bit.
I scotch tape a bit of copper wire to connect the two parts.
Not pretty but it work so far as the SRS light is off.
