Well, Norm sounds like a tractor

Quick version of the story, going to Orlando today ended up with Norm's exhaust coming apart on I-75. On to the photos!

This didn't help.

This failed, but got me to a gas station. We tried wrapping gasket material around it and "clamping" the ends off so it would create back pressure. However...

...it didn't last very long. I did get home though, thank god.

Although none of this would have gone off so well without the trunk triangle.

Norm is going to be loud tomorrow at the GTG

Isn't there supposed to be a resonator in that area?

I've had that mishap before but in a different car (non MB) and boy, it was LOUD and slow...

Went up the garage driveway only to have the back part jam on the gate rails... so I went in backwards

Hopefully you'll fare better than I did!

looks like you're good to go now for a few thousand more miles. Of course, if you had used duct tape, you'd have yourself a permanent repair.

Tyler, you sure get yourself in some funny poses in allot of pics.

I was waiting for the pics. Tyler described the scene to me last night as he was driving behind Norm. Somehow pics always add a bit to that theater of the mind.......
Hopefully a repair can be addressed at the GTG today.
Tyler has seen some interesting maladies on his trip so far.......

Regarding the pics --- Yes, he does. Bizarre, huh?

Regarding interesting maladies ---- Oh, dear. I can only imagine what might happen when he gets within 100 miles of Memphis.

Colin --- have fun sounding like a tractor. People will definitely notice.

I can't believe you had ramps back there but not what you needed. Add a tin can and bailing wire to your load - that's all you needed!

Perhaps more under-car inspections are needed? I try to inspect both of my cars underneath at least once a month.....sometimes more often....

Need to upgrade to a soup can...

The last twenty years or so there is usually nothing under a car to tie pipes up to. On old mercedes or any car with rubber loop type hangers the rear portion of the broken exhaust can occasionally be quickly removed. Not possible if the broken piece cannot be fished over the axle though. This at least might get you mobile again.

Anyways on a long trip of course in the early hours before dawn. My exhaust pieces decided to part company. There was nothing to tie to and tools on hand where minimal.

After thinking for a few minutes. I remembered the hood had a long hold up rod. Inserted that in one pipe lined the pipes up and slid it down into the other about halfway. It was not a thing of beauty but did keep the system up off the ground until I stopped in a small towns muffler shop after dawn. Now I understand why people like the station wagons. The ramps just take up too much space in normal trunks.
