Watter issue

Hello,

My car seems to have a problem the, water in the radiator seems to be getting a lot less, everyday the radiator has to be filled it's drinking water like hell the car wont over heat or anything but it gets very hot after a fast run so hot that you would almost get burnt by touching the crank case I have removed the thermostat and still there seems to be no improvement any ides ?

I think we will need more information about the car.

In the meantime:

-You may have to put the thermostat back in to get the correct flow pattern of coolant in the engine. My 602 needs the thermostat in otherwise too much coolant will bypass the engine. Yours may be the same. Anyone else care to comment?

- Any signs of water or coolant in the crankcase?

- Any in the transmission (if you have an automatic)?

- Sometimes trapped air can cause a lot of troubles. I am not familiar with your car so someone else will need to help you with checking for trapped air.

- What temperatures are indicated on your temperature gauge?

Hello,
Our car was an automatic but it had to be changed to a manual temporally till we find a gearbox and there is no sign of water in it or the crankcase I will put back the thermostat and post back thanks

You need to pressure-check the cooling system, wherever the coolant comes out is where the leak is.

Keep the thermostat in, taking it out will cause overheating in some situations.

You said water, but you really mean a 50/50 mix of water and coolant right? Straight water is not acceptable for use in the cooling system.

This is true, you need either Water Wetter or Coolant for their anti corrosive properties.

Well it looks like I should have used coolant too then I will put back the thermostat and use 50% coolant this time

actually, Unless you live in wisconsin or alaska, 70 to 60% water to coolant is just fine, and will cool better than 50/50...
My bet is the radiator is leaking if you have plastic tank ends...
any good autoparts store should be able to loan you a coolant pressure test kit

Hello,
Sorry for the delay I did drain all the watter out of the radiator and pipes in the car and filled it with 1 liter of radiator coolant and the rest with watter and it seems to have fixed the problem

I would keep a close eye on it.

I once had a coolant leak on a different vehicle that was quite troublesome to find. I did a compression test and it turned out to be a head gasket. The motor had been pressurizing the coolant system just enough to slowly push coolant out of the overflow bottle.

Well it still seems kind of hot but I cant find any pressure testing equipment where I live I don't know what to do now any ideas?

There may be a member near by,who can help.

I suspect that you've got an air pocket problem caused by your MB's Leak.
(Air pockets cause the Cooling system to NOT function properly)
[mayhaps even Water Pump Cavitation]

1st , FIND the Leak.

What's the Exhaust smell like...and Look Like?

Hello,

Well I cant say that there is any leak The radiator seems to be dry with no signs of watter and I cant see any watter leaking out of it when I top it off however we did have a problem with the thing that conects on to the fan blade and is rotated by the fan belt of course I asume this is what pumps the watter there was a leak and the guy who did the job said that there was some components actualy broken in it so he had replaced it with a compatable japanies one, I dont know what happened here as I did not do that job, has this something to do with it? I cant see any leaks and when the car is parked running I cant see any watter on the floor.
The exhaust smells kind of like nothing I guess no smell and it looks sort of black a little (just the inside) I cant say there is any smoke change when the car is hot or cold although it smokes a little more on high rew's, the engine had no magor change after or before thermostat being installed

can you take a pic of the "japenese thing" that the "mechanic" put on your car?
also, a perfectly operating cooling system, will indeed burn your hand if you touch the block... 80C is 175°F that'll leave a good burn...

Burn my hand? so then are you saying if it's working well that it should actually be quite hot? do you think its actually working ok then? it wont over heat but it will be hot specially after a long fast ride

Just be very careful of crushing the upper radiator neck when you tighten the clamps....ask me how I know. If you don't actually see a leak after running it for a while then you should be concerned, my first thought would be the head gasket having a pin hole leak (as was mentioned above).
Hopefully you don't have to hunt for parts as much since it seems hard to do - you are in Sri Lanka, correct? I remember you mentioning it on another thread where everyone wrongly assumed you had the parts availability akin to the states.
