606 Injectors
 

Hi I got a 95 E300D and I need injectors i took my injectors to a shop a they test them and they tlod me i need to rebuilt the injectors and they said it's going to cost 89.00 per injector i looking for some thing cheaper.Does any body know were i can get cheaper injectors?

Some of the online vendors have rebuilt injectors for as low as $60 plus a $12 core charge per each. Did the shop indicate why they needed to be rebuilt? I would ask what their rebuild includes (new nozzles, springs, shims, or what?)

If 6 nozzles are bad I would think it ought to run pretty ragged at start up and/or have very poor acceleration.......

Call or email Phil and get a cost for nozzles and for rebuilts.

It was running OK good fuel mileage 35 miles per gallon but it was shaking alot when idiling now we run a compression test and cylinders 1,2,3 have low compression about 300 and 4,5,6 have 400. I think the shop just want it to make money on the injectors

Sounds like you could use a second opinion.

Cracking the metal fuel lines and observing idle will help determine if an individual inj is causing a rough idle.

How are your motor mounts?

Don't be such a cheap bastard. It always amazes me when someone buys a european luxury car and then tries to cut corners to save $10. Do it right or don't do it at all. If $89 is too expensive for you, sell your car now and buy a Kia instead.

How many miles are on the injectors? If 150k+, I would rebuild them with new nozzles regardless of what else is going on with the car. For good nozzles, I bought some Fratelli Bozio nozzles from DieselGiant. I removed the injectors myself, put each one in a zip lock bag, and took them to the local diesel injection shop to have them rebuilt.

C'mon, don't be so harsh... It's just prudent shopping. If he's never done this before, he has no idea how much it should cost.

Hey, what gives, I'm a cheap bastard. If I were a rich bastard I probably would have bought my "european luxury car" (actually low on the list of reason I bought my cars) brand new.

If he's asking the question then he doesn't know. If you change your own oil (or any DIY work) is that being a cheap bastard? If so, sign me up.

benzguy300 - one option would be to buy just the nozzles and rebuild the injectors yourself. You can do searches and find lots of information on here and other sites on what nozzles to buy and how to do the work. In the end you would still have to take them somewhere to get them tested after they were rebuilt - which will cost you a little scratch, too. Price it all out and then decide - do you want to do the work or just pay a little more to have someone else do it - your call. If you are not up to that DIY work, then you will simply have to shop around when finding someone to rebuild for you.

The one internet place I looked at had rebuilt Injectors NA37X, at $60 with a $17 core Charge. So I would get on the internet and do some shopping.
But, buying them like that they are unlikely to be a balanced set like if you had a local shop to do and you need to pay shipping to send the cores back. Also, no one to talk to if you have a problem with them.

Hmmm that's not the impression I got. He didn't ask if that was a fair price or not, or mention that he doesn't know anything about such stuff, or ask if there's any steps he could DIY. he simply said "how can I do this cheaper". To me that implies cutting corners and/or substandard parts. That never sits well with me.

A proper diesel injector rebuild includes:

1. disassembling the injector bodies
2. ultrasonic cleaning of injector bodies and all internal components
3. replacing the injector nozzles with new ones
4. reassembling the injectors
5. pop-testing the injectors
6. shimming them to the correct pop pressure

If that $89 per injector includes new high-quality nozzles, that's a very fair and decent price. Fratelli Bosio nozzles for the 606 are $52 each FYI.

Hmmmm. I didn't get the impression that he was asking how well his question sat with you - if you don't like the question, don't answer.

The thing that gets me about your responses is that you offer lots of criticism up front but then go on to try to answer the question. Either forget the former and provide the latter - or go respond to threads that do sit well with you.

Wow lupin, you really got me there - I am super stunned by the way you so craftily turned my own argument against me. If you haven't yet noticed this is a forum for offering advice to folks - not personal criticism.

Now why don't you go put a suit on and drive one of your fine luxury autos around the neighborhood - will probably make you feel a little better.

I stand by my advice to the OP about buying a Kia if his intentions were truly to be cheap for the sake of being cheap. "There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes".
