Question Rebuilt blower motor? Need advice for 82 CD

Hi guys,

The blower motor is toast on my 82 CD. Fall is approaching so I am starting to think about those cold MBZ mornings again.

So it looks like a New Blower runs around $400-$500. Used ones on ebay (no idea how long or IF they actually work are around $50-$100.

My question is, does anyone know of a place that sells REBUILT blower motors? Any thoughts as to the cost and quality?

Can you order just the motor with out the squirrel cage? I paid $110 for a new Bosch without the cage. The price is obnoxiously high with a plastic cage added.

Providing the bearings are still good. I wish they were easy to rebuild.

Make sure it has failed. I tested one in car, nothing. After getting on the work bench, I tested it again, works fine. I reheated some cold solders, it's working now.

This is something you can rebuild yourself, but to answer your question there is a place out of WA, merc.....source.com that sells just the motor sans squirrel cage. They're more expensive than just about everyone 'cept the dealer.

I have a spare that I'd sell you, but don't think it'd help cause I'm not sure it works or how much life the brushes have left, etc.

Thumbs up Observation....

My '85 300D....removed the blower from car and found that it would run....put back in car made noises (like bad bearing).....took it out.....removed the plastic cover/mount from the motor/blower.....noticed some interesting marks on inside of cover/mount.....put 1 flat washer over screw, between plastic piece, and motor itself, during reassembly......works fine......it appears that "over time" the motor and thus the blower cage had settled a bit.....the washer shims the whole assembly up about a mm or two......now blower cage does not contact plastic mounting piece when in the vertical position.

300SD Blower removal

How do I remove the blower fan on the 1985 300SD...I've removed some screws from the carpeted panel but the panel doesn't budge.
I'm pretty sure it's dead (worked but noisy, then worked if you punched the area below the glove box)
