dad's 1980 240D Manny tranny has 1st gear judder

the car is well maintained and has approx. 150k miles on it.....clutch judder seems to happen predominantly in 1st gear...any thoughts/suggestions?

I'm visiting in a few days and would love to send him to his mech. armed with some knowledge.

Rob "stayalert" M

5-6 hours south of home......

Sometimes a clutch will draw moisture and judder until it dries out.

My old BMW bike did it with the front brake. Grabby front brakes on a bike can get a little exciting.

Sounds like the clutch disc surfaces are probably glazed.

A couple of 2nd-gear starts should fix it.

Could the drive shaft be wobbling? sometimes the center support bearing rips out the mount.
