B2 Piston Success! now I gotta fix the vacuume...

all forward gears work now, but it's not shifting unless I lift my foot. then it's FIRM!!!
oh, and the car has a bit of a clunk when the brakes are pressed...
I'll show pics of that mess when I get a chance.
lets just say the ball joints have seen better times.
anybody got any tips for getting that $&#)(%&$)&#$) LOWER ball joint free of the LCA? I've beat and beat on it. no go. I've hit it with the torch till the grease boiled, no go. tried a pickle fork, no go *(although the fork I tried was too wide, so I'll get the right width one and try again later today.

anyway, back to the B2.
VERY smooth install. I should have taken pics, but I did not. it was just SOOOOO easy to install.
I built a little tool for pressing on the cover, very simple tool just a 2" square of plywood with a screw in it, the screw fits in the nail puller slot of a superbar. then ya just push on the cover with it... pics will help to explain this...

B2 piston seal

Hey John,
I just ordered the piston and bushing for my '84 from fastlane,
but they don't seem to have the seal.
Did you change yours?
Where did you find it?
Did you have to get it from the dealer?

Brian

I have a guaranteed method:

Get one of the pitman arm pullers that can apply pressure to the end of the stud and force the joint downward while pulling up on the LCA. Don't need to go crazy with the force.

Now, with that tool in place, hit the ball joint very smartly on the outside of the housing........laterally........to shock the housing. Use a very large hammer and it will release after a few blows.

yeah, I got the "pusher" tool, and it popped right out. on the virgin ball joint, it took A LOT of power, but POW!!! it popped out also! I likey the tool!

I got all the seals and everything from Phil at fastlane, odd he did not have them for you...
the only tip I can add to the tons of instructions found online is this. the outer cover needs to be aligned PERFECTLY with the hole before you push it in. if it's crooked you will damage the o-ring seal! you can easily align it by hand and push it in most of the way, then just push the rest of the way with the tool.
still havn't taken a pic, but if you have a superbar prybar with the nail puller in the middle of the tool, hook a chunk of wood there, and use leverage to push on the cover. oh, and getting the wire retainer out of the cover, there's a chunk sticking out of the cover, after you have the ring partially out, rotate the cover until the chunk aligns with the opening in the ring. the square chunk has a hole in it to hook with a pic or a screwdriver. very smooth.

also, what's a DT?
I'm guessing sedan? 123? on yours I think you have to drop the transmission mostly out of the car to get at the cover plate. the 126 is SOOOOO much roomier! use lots of jackstands, and safety for sure! if you have to drop the trans a lot, be sure and disconnect the speedo cable first, you don't wanna break that plate!
I had to lift the front up about 24" and the rear at least 18" for a comfortable reach of everything.
