When driving over 100 mph...

make sure your turn signal lights are in snug. They may just rip themselves out and scare the bejeezus out of you!:o

I had fun in northern Maine the other day. It was the first time I got it up to that speed, it felt great. Only did it for a few minutes when the road was empty before I lost my nerve. Got it to about 110 when there was a smash and I see something flying by on my right. I thought I hit a bird or something!

Will probably be years before I can do that again.

LOL. Parts start peeling off at high speed? :D :D My dad lost a light like that before too...the threads in the plastic nut were appearantly stripped....(it was laying inside there)....light was gone. :D On a W124 it is a clip system....probably wasn't snapped in all the way.

I made that mistake twice.I had bought new turn signals but both were missing a tumbwheel.I had one on each.

Come on fix that, what is it a VW.:D That W124 is good to 160mph+ with the right motor.

137mph on the level with a stock 603.960, ... not that I'd admit that for legal reasons.

Only thing I've ever had fly off at high speed was Christmas ornaments...:silly:

My new power antenna is a bit bent now... and it's not been through an automatic car wash

Hitting flying objects is hard on antenna masts.

How is the OM603 W124 good to 137 but the M103 W124 is only rated to 138mph....seems that the extra 25-35hp that the M103 has over the 603 would give it more than 1 extra mph of top speed....

babymog 08-24-2009 11:31 PM

Can't tell you why, just that it does. The brochure said 128 (with trap-ox), I wanted to see what mine did, ... did just fine.

The 300E M103 is supposed to be good for 140. With 3.07 gears (vs the OM603 or M104 with 2.65:1), does make the M103 spin a little more for the speed though.

pawoSD 08-25-2009 12:14 AM

The M103 has a redline of 1,200 rpm higher than the 603......I'm not going to find out what mine can do on public roads, maybe on a private runway or something.

I've taken it as high as 127....and it was climbing fast. No doubt 140 would have been reached easily. But, remembering I was essentially qualified to go to prison at that speed, I promptly slowed way down.

Grattan isn't big enough.

compu_85 08-25-2009 07:01 AM

Was that on the speedo or on a GPS? At those speeds my speedo would probably be 6 mph off
