Kick down solenoid
Now I have another question, about the movement of the kick down solenoid
I had mine out and wired to the battery and connected to the plus on and of, but the only thing I got was a little click in it. Is the shaft in it supposed to move quite a bit or what is it supposed to do?? "Fast Lane" only sells the solenoid for 300TD not for 240D, but I found a place that sells it for the 240D for about 80$. What bothers me is that the picture only shows the solenoid sleeve without the shaft. Is that the way is is sold??? Has anyone replaced one of those, like to get my kick down to work, wore already out the shifter bushings. Here is a pic of the part. Thanks for your help Wolfgang

I have never replaced one of these particular units. But, it is not totally uncommon to repair a solenoid mechanism by replacing the coil only, which is what I expect this unit to be. When the coil opens, or shorts among the windings it can no longer make a magnetic field to actuate the plunger. The logical thing is to replace the coil, the plunger is nothing more than "a hunk o' arn(iron)".
Good luck, |

Thanks Larry, that clears it up and I can order the part with more ease.
