84 turbo return plug?

My 83 td was plugged by my mechanic at the turbo return line, he took out the brass elbow and plugged it with a torque converter drain plug, he said it would give me better power but that if emissions ever were to be an issue to save the elbow.

I am now looking at the return on an 84 300d and it is slightly different, it is more of a straight hose with a clamp, doesn anyone know about this difference, can the return be plugged with a drain plug same as the previous 617's

Is this mod not recomended? My mechanic breathes Mercedes Diesels and was factory trained in Germany during the 1980's so i suppose he knows what hes doing.

Do you have a picture? Just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing before giving my opinion.

The only return line that I can think of in terms of a turbo is an oil line (elbow) ...but this should never be plugged.
A picture would indeed say more than a thousand words........

He would not block the oil return line. The oil would bake fast. Kiss the turbo bearings or/and seals good bye. Must be something else but there is little there. Only thing I can think of is the boost line. But then the alda would get no signal. Does not seem to make much sense at this point.
