FOUND, 240D with 26k!

I found a really nice 240D. 1983, 24,000 miles, $13,500.00. Just thought I'd share the treasure... Oh, its Ivory over Palomino too!

Randall,

This makes me feel like I got rooked. I paid a little over $17,000 for my 240D that had 17,000 miles....... Of course, that was in 1985.

Thanks for passing this along. I wonder if the price will ever come down to something more realistic.

Have a great day,

Again, its that classic case...

What we have here is that classic case of having something old, (exceedingly rare) that his little to no use. You can have a tooth brush from 1957, and if it is in the box mint, its a collectors item, going for 10 times what a new/used one is going for. I think its fair if its what you want. What would you price it at. (And no, I don't want to hear $7,000...)

This a quote from BlackMercedes on another thread:

'I know a woman that bought a 1986 560SL with 6000 miles on it, and she bought it this last summer. The car had not been driven for many years, and when it was, only for very brief trips.

Many parts inside the engine had deteriorated, and the car required huge sums of money to bring it back to snuff. The terrible thing is that she paid an enormous price for the car given it's low mileage.'

Be very careful with a low mile vehicle.

Sounds nice but in reality that is only a little over a thousand miles a year meaning that the car sat and sat and that is very hard on any auto from the rubber parts to condensation inside the engine and fuel tank ,13.500 will buy a lot of new parts for a car with a good sound underbody....

I agree......after all ,no matter how clean in its, it is still what it is....for 17K you could buy a lot newer car that's a lot safer and more entertaining to drive......I don't that person will get that kind of cash....if it was a SL ..maybe?...but a 240D..no...

my MB dealer had a 1990 420SEL a few months ago with 7K miles. black/blk....still smelled new ....it was priced at $30K!!!.....they sold it to someone..although I am not sure what the actual transaction price was....but no 420 is worth 30K.....a person who overpays like that I guess has to throw out all thoughts of resale

Okay, Okay....

Just thought I'd share the old car everyone, albeit its a rip-off, just thought some of you dieselheads would appreciate a 19 year old W123 with only 26K on the clock... By "exceedingly rare" I mean how many W123s are still on the road (compared to 5/10 years ago) that are in clean shape? You all know of plenty, (you know where to look/where you park your cars) but to the layman Mercedes man, w123s are slowly dying breed. Just ask any body-shop man or service rep. Through, I must say, I never met a group of people who DON'T appreciate low-milage cars. It's not for everybody, but to someone its a find. Tell me when they un-earth a 1985 300D Turbo (in Anthricite DB 172) with delivery miles on the clock. I may buy it, but keep my baby with 137,000 miles to enjoy.

BTW, some of you may know this, there is a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe buried in Tulsa OK. It will be un-earthed in about 5 years, and given to a lucky raffle winner who in 1957, correctly guessed the population of Tulsa in 2002. But none you you would love this car, its doesn't have 400,000 miles on it....

I saw a 300D in the paper today supposed to have 62,000 "original" miles. Asking price was $1500. I think it was a 76 or 77. I may give that one a call tomorrow, just out of curiosity. Not really expecting it to be as stated. Seems like I have looked at dozens that were greatly misrepresented.
