Post Fuel Tank PN and MSRP

I am trying to have Best Buy replace my fuel tank and I need to find both the part number and what a dealer would charge for a new tank (regardless of whether or not they would have one to sell.)

If I have the part number, I believe I could track down the MSRP. If someone has that information, I would be very grateful. I am also wondering if there are part numbers to go along the other areas of the trunk, such as the metal plate in front of the tank, the wheel cover, the trunk carpet, the plastic liner, etc.

I have a 1984 300D.

Thanks for any of your help! I trust you guys and I am very thankful to the members of this forum for being committed to helping others through their own expertise.

Here's a link to the full story of what happened to my car.

Wow, that sucks. Can't believe anyone would try to cover something like that up. One reason why I don't like taking cars into stereo installers. They generally do a crappy job and things like this happen way too often.

For the fuel tank, EPC sez 123 470 39 01. Quick Google search brought up a list price of $1231.25. Was the only price I found so I don't know if it's legit or not.

That price may be right, I was at the local JY's, all MB diesels were missing their fuel tank.

All the PNP/JY I have been to, the tanks are there, just full of holes.

They say it is faster to drain the fuel this way.

Be cheaper to buy an old parts car for the tank.

I've got three w123 tanks and I've already been in touch with Lance. If anyone else needs one, please let me know.

The main reason for this post is to gather information so that in the event that Best Buy wants an estimate for the affected parts, I can get a head start on them. If someone has access to dealer prices for the fuel tank, that would help me out a lot.

At this point, no matter how much I just want to go out and replace the tank myself, I have to wait for Best Buy to make a decision before I can develop a plan of action. Their corporate office is now aware and the district manager is aware, so things should be resolved shortly (I hope!)

Would it be reasonable to assume that the diesel fuel in the trunk wells would have sped up the rust process causing one of the wells to form a hole the size of a football?

Diesel fuel is oil, should slow rust by depriving it of oxygen.

My 82 240D had a plastic tank, I see from your signature you live in the rust belt, I would recommend going with the plastic tank when you replace, no possibility of rust ever.
