wont start with key switch?

I have a 240d just got and it start only when jumping across soneloid, key switch doesnt wrk. I s there a fuseable link or relay bad,, I think it is some kind of wiring problem , but not sure where to start...Got any ideas?? Thanks

I would look at the ignition switch, NSS, grounds and connections for starters. Also bench test the relay for the starter.

sounds like its time to break out the multimeter and start testing. The NSS is definitely a likely culprit - and when you're down there, check the shift linkage bushings to make sure they're not at fault either. The ignition switch is kind of a PITA to get at so I would leave that until last. Its all a matter of testing continuity and working your way up river.

It would be nice if you updated your sig to include the cars data. Manual tran have no NSS. But I too agree this is the most common culprit. Unless some idiot forgot to tighten the solenoid wire screw all the way. *whistles*

Thanks for the reply

It is an auto trans and neutral switch should be down underneath at linkage for the trans correct.. Also where is a good place to get a wrk shop manual..thanks
