power steering line leak

hey everyone. i got a 85 300d. the power steering line at the pump wont stop leating. i'v tried to tighten it, but still leaks. i think its the pressure line i think, the fitting closest to the front of the car. do the flares or the pump fitting go bad? thanks..

That is the low pressure line, (#65) you may want to closely inspect the threads, if okay, wrap with teflon tape and re-install.

If it's the return hose as toomany MBZ says, it might be a brittle hose. The Buy Parts -> Fastlane link above will get you the proper 12mm hose.

After 25 years, it is common for those hoses to start "weeping." If you need an immediate solution, generic 3/8" power steering hose, available at most auto parts stores, would be a viable alternative to the existing hose.

leak

sorry for not getting back with you guys. i think th flare had a crackin it. the rubber hose part wasnt leaking. i got the hose off a car at the junk yard and changed it, no more leak. thanks for the ideas

Is there a rubber washer down at the steering box where the flared line meets? If so that might go bad and need replacing? or is it metal to metal?

Right side hole on box is where I have a leak.

Flare fittings are metal to metal seal, never have rubber washers in between. I'd look closely at the mating surfaces for gouges, deformation, cracks etc. Sometimes, light gouges can be cleaned up with wet/dry sandpaper and stop the leak.
