Question about Eurolights vac switch? 85 300SD

Hi,

I am thinking about upgrading my US 1985 300SD with a set of bosch Euroheadlights. I have found a used vacuum switch to control the new lights but before I start the upgrade I was wondering if someone could tell me if there is a pre-drilled vacuum switch hole next to my current headlight switch?

Thank you.

F

there isn't a pre-drilled hole. the same 'rosette' that holds the headlight switch knob, also comes in a 'euro' version, which includes the vacuum adjust switch and the hole for it. there's one on ebay right now, including switch

No, you need a Euro bezel with an opening for the headlight dipper switch. Or cut your own hole.

You can start the upgrade now to enjoy proper lighting ASAP. Add the switch and vacuum lines later. Without the vacuum system the headlights will behave like normal headlights.

I didn't realize the 126 switch has an up position. 123 and 124 switches only have down positions. I wonder if 123 and 124 headlight actuators can do up as well.

The 123's had up and down capabilities if the car was equipped with SLS.

I've never seen a 123 switch with an up position, only 0-1-2-3 down. Same with 124 switches. This is the first time I notice any switch with 1-<0>-1-2-3. I assume the this means it can tilt the headlights one notch upwards besides the more common 3 notches downwards.

EDIT - picture pilfered from eBay removed since it was posted without permission.

My Euro owners manual for the 123 shows that exact same switch and it notes that it was used on models with SLS.

Gotcha. I thought you meant adjustment switches of any sort only came with SLS cars.

The w124 also had the up position option, as well as the w201.

I guess I wasn't clear about my description. That's what I meant to say.

I'm sure wagons with SLS had that same switch. The owners manual doesn't differentiate between the three body styles.

Brodie's Euro 500E headlight switch only shows 0-1-2-3 positions -

I'm gonna have to sharpen my eyes.

When I apply vacuum on the Euro lights on my car, the lights point up. I never got it to point down, except maybe when releasing vacuum.

Maybe that's why the setup on mine is not working, since I have the 0-1-2-3 only switches but not the 1-0-1-2 type which is for those with SLS.

The Euros on mine came from a 280E as per the original MB styrofoam box said.
