What do an 82 300D Euro's AC/Heater controls look like?
In another thread here we've been discussing whether or not the car I"m going to look at tomorrow is a Euro model or not. It is a N/A 4speed stick. Seller is clueless. I'm told here if it's a euro it should have manual AC/Heat controls. I've only seen controls for the CC setup in SD's so far. Seller says he remembers it having a "temperature control wheel thingy". Would manual AC still have this? I've searched for pics and can't find any. Maybe it's a euro with CC? NO? Yes?
anybody got a pic? 82 300D probable euro. thanks....

Yes a Euro 123 will have a temp control wheel but it only controls the A/C and not the heat like the CCU and like in the DK's photo it is located in the upper switch panel above the fan and heater controls. The system is nearly identical to what you would find in a similar vintage US model 240D.

I'm meeting the seller at 12:30 today phoenix time. Thanks for the pic and info. Big help! DK23 how would I contact you? That'd be great.
I did find out the car has 200k, so that makes me a bit nervous....

^That mileage shouldn't be a deterrent. My SD has 217,000, the engine is fine.

All the euro stuff can be added, so to know for sure if it is Euro or not, check the ID plate. On the euro, it's on the radiator crossmember, where as the US version is on the door jamb - Driver's. And yes, even that could be changed, so the best way to determine euro or not is under the rear bumpers. If there are euro bumpers mounted on a US car, the shock holes will still be there. There are NO shock holes on the euro - rear. Te deseo suerte chivito!

While on the subject here on the manual CC, I cam across this burl Wood
trim off a 79 280CE. most I have seen has been the black plastic. a couple of the pieces need to be redone. this will look good when I convert the 85 to Manual CC. I have noticed some with the wheel and the earlier ones with the switch that rotates. Does one have an advantage over the other? Charlie.

Before someone installed the hitch, the holes were probably blocKed off with some metal plates. As for verifying the VIN, regardless of where the ID tag is mounted, all these cars should have the VIN stamped into the firewall, above-behind the engine. However, Mercedes used a diffeent VIN sequence depending on if the car ws built for North America or not. My Euro wagon's VIN starts with WDB123, while the VIN on my US-market '82 240D starts with WDBAB23. This could be an issue with your local DMV or MVA if the car you're considering is currently registered/titled out of state. Also, it may be wise to check with your insurance carrier before purchase to make sure they have no problem covering a grey-market/Euro car. Happy Motoring, Mark
