Hall effect sensor/ speed sensor question... help needed

Good day everybody.

I need to know whether the "Hall effect sensor" and "Speed sensor" are the same thing.

Can somebody tell me to know where it/they is/are located on a W124 260E 1988

In advance many thanks for replies

I don't believe they are the same. The Hall Effect sensor is used in some ignition timing circuits and a speed sensor would only sense speed.

Don't know if the 124 even has a Hall Sensor? Don't see why a diesel engine would need one.

EDIT:
Just did a quick google. apparently there is a hall effect speed sensor and a hall effect current sensor. They are not the same thing.

It is the same on the 124 diesels, is in the back of the speedometer.

OOPS should have precised it is for my Benzin car 260E W124

And on a similar note, anyone know where the speed sensor is on an 87 300sdl?

The 126 has no speedometer cable, it is driven by an electronic signal in the tailpiece of the transmission.

Does this component give any signal to the ECU? and on wich contact?

I don't know, but if you need one, I have the harness with the speed-sensor on it from my '91 350SDL transmission.
