Shifts hard when cold

My car shifts pretty hard before it warms up. After I have been driving and the temp comes up it starts to shift much smoother. Is this normal for these cars? Or maybe do I have something going on with my trans?

Normal. Shift pressure is determined by bleed off of the vacuum control valve which in turn is effected by the position of the rack. Since there is less horsepower when the engine is cold, you push the accelerator harder and the system, not knowing the engine is cold, thinks you are accelerating a lot faster so need a stiffer shift.

My '85 300D does the very same thing. Good to know that's why it shifts a little harder when it's cold.

Mine does too.
