Seats from a 89 300SE into 84 300SD

I was at the U pull r parts yesterday looking for a window switch for my suburban and they had just dropped of a pretty nice 89 300SE.

I first thought the exterior was the same color as mine but after I pulled the trunk panel and front fenders and got them home I noticed they have a little more of a blue tint then mine does.

However the interior was gray like mine and the seats were in great shape so I pulled the rear and fronts out along with some panels. Man was it a b%tch getting all the bolts out when you can't move the seats around. But that is another story.

I searched a bit but haven't found anything definitive. I'm pretty sure I could swap them using the SE seats on my SD frames, but maybe I don't even need to swap frames??

The real only difference seems to be auto headrests?

There was one extra switch on the door. It was a little tiny one behind the tilt. I thought it was for the headrests but don't know for sure.

Has anyone done this swap or point me to any threads that have done this?

Thanks!

Here is a thread from last month on almost the same issue, 91 126 to a 84 SD.
www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=260946

I have almost the same issue also. I have seats out of a 87 560SEL for my 84 300SD. these are also heated. Iam replacing the parchment interior to Black.
the rear seats on the SEL are electric, the whole bench seat moves.
we removed the bottom seat leather cover thinking it might fit the SD seat. we`ll see. the back part is a little different. the SEL is now crushed, so maybe the next one that comes in, I`ll remove the seat frame for the electrics.

Now if I can just pull it off.

the seat compatibility has been addressed in the thread linked to above. as for heated seats, you need to retrofit the entire wiring harness and relays in order to have them operational, which includes the two switches in front of the shifter console, and thus a shorter/different shifter surround wood. very hard to do.

even harder would be to retrofit the reclining rear seats onto a car that doesn't have them. you'd have to use an angle grinder to cut out the bracket, retrofit the entire wiring harness, route wiring into the doors, etc. major PITA

I would (wish I didn't give away my old seat frames/motors/connectors) just swap the frames and motors....you just won't have power headrests.

I originally was only pulling the front seats. this is a 12 yr old car with perfect Black leather seats, no cracks or any signs of wear.

the rear seats were an after thought.
then when I got them home, what`s this little connector hanging out the back of the seat cover? HMMM, what do you know? Heated seats .

Yeah that rear seat frame looks like a challenge to install from the SEL.
