Foglamp Replacement

Anyone have a better pictorial than Haynes on how to do this. I hear its a headache and the Haynes explanation is vague as can be.

i'd start by removing the headlight door, and then removing each headlight housing off the car, then you will see what knobs you need to unbolt to reduce the pressure on the springs that keep the fog lamps attached to the headlight housing. then you use a pair of pliers to unhook the springs (careful not to break the springs) and release the fog lamps.

This is factually incorrect information.

That manual has info for the EU or UK model, if you have a Federal (U.S.) model just remove those white knurled nuts, four of 'em, that will allow you to pull the headlight "door" from the front. Surrounding each light is a metal bezel, held on by a couple of screws, take them out. The light will come out. On the fogs you'll see the plugs you need to pull out and using the Haynes manual squeeze the retaining clips to access the bulb.
The headache part, I would think, is the vacuum adjustment part on the UK models. I have dealt only with Federal units.

removing the screws off the bezel is only if you don't want to take the buckets for the N-Am fog lights out

Maybe you could enlighten us as to why one would want to remove the "buckets" (which would require re-aiming the lights) when replacing the "foglamp."

I am starting to wonder if this is misinformation or disinformation.

so its a small bulb i must replace, not the entire amber lamp right? The haynes manual seems to suggest that if the lamp blows, the entire lamp (bulb and amber glass) must be replaced. I am wrong on this correct? (please say yes)

What I see in your signature picture looks like a sealed beam unit. Remove the bezel and replace the entire sealed beam unit.

The fog lamps are not "sealed beam." They use an H3 bulb, available at most parts stores and many discount stores.

Remove the door, remove the bezel, take the unit out. It will be obvious if it is sealed beam or an H3 bulb. Mine is sealed beam.

Correct, the pic is a fog light from a 126, but the 123's use the same bulb and mount.

neither. this is how to most easily remove the fog lights with buckets, from the n-am headlight housings. it's just easier to do if the headlight is off the car.

as for why someone would want to remove the buckets, i dunno, i just supplied the information, and you can't disagree that what i said it correct for removing fog lights including buckets.

besides, re-aiming the lights is not a difficult task to accomplish. why, did you find it hard?

this is what the back of the lamp housing looks like from inside the car. I dont want to mess with anything unless im sure what part i need. I see only one white knurled knob, and then I see long black knobs. The right side is the whote regular lamp, the left is the fog lamp.

The black knobs are used to aim the lights; there is no need to touch them. Perhaps your "missing" white knobs have been replaced with ordinary nuts. Same concept.
