116s didn't have power seats. They were heavier and less aerodynamic. They came with old tech/look Becker Europa radio. Looks better wearing Bundts.
W126 300SDs had more luxurious amenities. Quieter, nicer driving, with less Turbo lag and more power. Better Aerodynamics, roomier interior. Stereo head unit advanced enough that with better speakers and a good amp you have a decent stereo. Look silly wearing Bundts, even though they came as original Equipment. 1986 - '87 SDL Models have fragile aluminum head engines.

the 116 is more classic, my wife likes it. The 126 is more stately. My wife doesnt like it.
Most any 116 ive seen is a rustbucket. Some of the stuff in it looks old - like last gen to a w123 - for better or worse. Lots of w126 cars look modern, could practically have rolled off the production line yesterday. Personally, I would love to get a 116, but my practical side indicates that someday Ill buy a 617-equipped 126. My wife doesnt like that idea, and suggests I keep w123s, which she likes, and get her an ML320CDI.

Both the W116 and W126 are great cars. The W116 is a more classic design and I love the look. Regarding the servo, I have also been fortunate to have had no issues with mine.
Fortunately, my W116 has always been a southern car and is not a rust bucket. With one notable exception (lost the harmonic balancer at 70 mph) it has been extremely reliable for me in my 8+ years and nearly 100k miles of ownership. I had to make a decision recently on whether to keep my trusty 80 300SD or my bigger, faster, smoother, sharp as hell looking 87 300 SDL. I chose to keep the W116 (sold the SDL yesterday to a forum member) because I simply couldn't bear to get rid of it. It's not as refined as the W126 but it is just a cool ass car that's fun to drive and still turns heads 30 years after rolling off the line. I plan on being in the seat when it crosses the 500k mile threshold in a few years.

Did you check to see if your car had been recalled for the harmonic balancer?

Nope. I was blissfully ignorant of such a recall until seeing it mentioned in this thread. I was also lucky that a forum member, Engatwork, happened to have a spare one from a 300 SD laying around that he sold to me at a very reasonable price. Been almost 3 years and it's still running fine.
