Injector fuel line nozzle broke!
I just finished replacing the VC gasket on my 220D because the old one ended up ripping and was leaking oil really badly. I took the main fuel lines off the injectors and the VC just fell in to place. Well after everything was put back together and I was all proud of myself, my dad told me I was leaking fuel. I didn't think much of it because I though I didn't tighten the main fuel line tight enough.
Well it was leaking from the little fuel line, I touched it and snap, the little metal nozzle on the side of the injector broke off so now I need a new injector. This REALLY sucks because I was ready to go around for a spin So now I'm off to the junkyard to get a injector off a 240 or something, Is it just as easy as a swap or are there all these little intricate pieces that I'm going to have to be wary of. Ugh I'm so bummed

You broke off 1 or 2 of the return nozzles? If it is 1 then you can make do by plugging it with JB weld, ( a piece of wood, silicon etc ) and move it to the last cylinder. The last one only uses 1.
Swap it out when after you find a new/old one. Just an idea.

You can seperate the injectors but i wouldn't. Just take a 27mm deep socket and remove the entire unit from the head.

Thats what I want to do, but for some reason he wants to do it from the middle. We're trying to fine a wrench that'll fit. Another thing that sucks is we're so ill equipped

You can do it but there are springs and other parts that much be installed correctly.
Its a 27mm BTW.

You do NOT want to separate the injector bodies. It is much much easier to swap the entire injector. Trust me on this.

Yeah, I didn't want to do it through the middle. We're just waiting on my sister to get back from breakfast so we can go get a 27mm deep socket wrench. My dad didn't understand why we couldn't do it from the middle lol

Just swap the whole injector and plug the nozzle with something. Why mess around? If you lose some small parts then you are in bigger trouble. I bought a special MBZ injector removal socket, I did not know it is 27mm.
BTW: I am very resourceful, sometimes anyway. Good luck.

Also, any time you remove an injector, you should replace the heat shield that sits underneath it. They very cheap, a few pennies. If these injectors have more than 150k miles on them, they're overdue for a rebuild. Remove all of them and take them to a diesel injection shop and have them rebuilt with new nozzles. Cost should only be about $70/per and that includes parts and labor. Your motor will run much more smoothly, make more power, and get better MPG's.

I am now monitoring that and another injector for leakage in that area.

If someone has not said this allready if you change the upper body of the Fuel Injector you are going to change the opening pressure of that Injector.
I do not know if it will work but this is a fix I recently though of. If only one little return hose barb broke off; with the Injector body removed have someone Arc Weld over the Hole. After that put that Injector on the very last Cylinder.

Anything in general to look for when pulling injectors out of junkyard cars?
