power steering belt 220D
 

Any tricks for getting the belt off the powe steering pump on my 73 220D? The engine manual only references using a "lever" to move the pump outwards to tighten. Thanks.

If the adjuster bolt is a "star bolt," just loosen the bolt and turn. If no star, then loosen the adjuster bolt and the attaching bolt. When both are loose enough, the pump can be pushed inward easily.

No star adjuster on this one. I've loosened the bolts but can only get minimal movement and still can't get that belt off. And where in god's name do I place a lever in way down there to exert more force? AM I in danger of damaging the steering? Thank.
