W124 Rear caliper fiasco

Has anyone had issues with remanufactured calipers and the pistons seemingly not going in far enough?

I just got a pair of Bendix remans, by NuGeon or something, and I have had on serious pain in the behind getting pads that work. I finally found some crappy ones that work, but they won't last long

Anyway, I hear that there is some new type of caliper that is a "universal 124/201 fit" being made now, and that they require thinner pads.

My neighbor says that I should take the calipers back because they piston should go down more (although he is not a Mercedes enthusiast by any means)

I am on wit's end here, because my car's been out of service for a week now, and I just want to have it going.

So, I guess the point of this post is, if you get remans, get new pads...and, has anyone else had this problem?

FWIW, I give up and am sending them back. Maybe I got sent a bad set or something, but this is just ridiculous. I think tomorrow I might just head to the junkyard and get me a nice $20 example

Good luck.
I have read of other members having problems with their rebuilt calipers and rebuilt parts in general.

I just put rebuilt rear calipers from NuGeon on my W126 in June, and they worked great....pistons went all the way in no problem. Might just be a fluke....or maybe the wrong part?

Yeah, I don't know since the person I ordered from didn't actually see them either. It's too bad; they were a good price, and they look like they are well "re-made". I guess there is that chance that they aren't meant for my car...but then again, what kind of pistons don't compress enough?? The 300D and E already had the smallest rotors..

Despite the cold and rain, I got a nice junkyard example for $25 this morning. Man, what a relief this is!

The vast majority of rebuilt brake calipers are garbage. They must have zero quality control at their factory. You can buy seal kits from brembo or ate or whoever and rebuild them yourself. It's pretty simple, and the results will be far better than the crap they sell as "re-manufactured".
