Transmission interchangeability
I was wondering if a 1991 mercedes 300 D with a 2.5, 5 cylinder motor with an automatic transsion will fit into my 1987 300 td wagon with a 6 cylinder motor. Will the transmission from the 1991 fit in the 1987 interchangeable? Will this be an exact fit or will I have to do some work?

I have an 87 diesel transmission in my 92 coupe temporarily.
 I don't see why it wouldn't work. so far i've driven about 1500 miles on the set up without a hitch.

Exact fit I believe. The transmission is a different number, but the same series, likely some internal (ratios etc.) differences.
4th gear will be 1:1 on both.
