I heard about this volvo p1800 IIRC that has 2.7 million with only 2 rebuilds. That seems just about impossible. 900,000 miles without a rebuild? On a 1966 gasser?

Sure, just keep rebuilding/replacing parts, don't let it get rusty, don't drive into anything big and they will last forever. No problem.

With several engine/tranny rebuilds, 8 or 10 axle shafts, a couple rear ends, 2 or 3 sets of front wheel bearings/2 rears, 3 complete front end rebuilds, countless A/C problems, etc...

But... At least it will still look good when you get there.

Any car will go a million miles if you throw $$ at it.

Sure, but why would you bother with "any car"?

For the same reason why you only bother with "older" cars, personal preference.

Depends on the engine, maintenance schedule, and how it is driven. Obviously certain engines (617, 601, 602, 603, 606....M103/M104 etc)......can all make it to the 400k+ range with proper general maintenance.

I've seen a few MB V8's with well over 300k on them....still running fine.

My original 617 made it to 438k miles before it lost compression in one cylinder. That's probably about as good as it gets.

Remember it's not just the engine. If you really want to put high miles on one of these, you have to decide you are going to put some serious effort (meaning money) into it starting around 300k miles. At the moment, my 300D is with my Indy for rear tires, front calipers, a speedo cable, tranny service, valve adjustment, rebuilt injectors, one trailing arm (beginning to fail at the shock mount), two rear shocks, two rear springs (one was found broken when the trailing arm was removed), and some front end work. This isn't "defered work," this is stuff that's developed over the last year (about 50k miles) since the last time I had a chance to have it gone over in detail.

Same here, assuming I'm still alive/working in another 20 years. I Certainly don't want a new one, and I really don't want to start over with another W123 (too many unknowns).

I'm 56

My TD is my last car. 112,900 miles now. This one will still be alive for
my granddaughter, hehe if it's cool at the time. It may be the next 57
Nomad. Perhaps just a cool old car. Like a 66 Dodge Dart station wagon
was to me in the day.
