300SDL: Window Motor Disassembly?
OK, I got my 86' 300SDL's driver side window motor out and drilled out the rivets holding the motor's cover on but for the life of me I cannot figure how to get the worm gear out. I'm hoping the brushes are the culprit.
I tried carefully (if that can actually be done ) prying up the metal plate that's atop that black plastic/rubber piece that sits in/on the big pink gear but that's not working. I tried prying the small gear outside the motor housing but she aint' budging. I looked for set screws but don't see any. Can anyone tell me how to get this puppy apart? Thank you, thank you, and thanks again.

Motor armature and shaft should just pull out....
Its prolly the internal heat-fuse thats O/C.... Brushes last a long time.... The fuse is in that small black square thing between one end of the supression coil and either a brush-lead or one of the power leads. I used a piece of 15A domestic fuse-wire to fix mine....

Thanks Alastair. I'll check into that. I'm good with soldering.... hopefully I can desolder, remove, and reinstall a fuse wire with my big ham hands.

The fuse has continuity so I don't believe that's my problem. I replaced both brushes last night. Just waiting for the glue to dry because I busted the "arms" of the little square caps that hold the brushes in the housing. If that doesn't work then I'll go for the fuse. After that I don't know what else it could be.

You may know this already but the Electrical connections are only through the 2 Wires coming off of the Motor. The Motor Body does not act as a ground.
You can test the motor while it is out on your Battery.

I have tried that already and it feels like she wants to go... I can feel a slight kick when I apply voltage to the leads. Still investigating.....guess it's gotta be the fuse, but methinks I wouldn't even feel the slight kick if it wasn't getting juice past the fuse. Or, I messed something up and something's getting grounded.

After much putzing around I bought a used motor from a friend yesterday. What a major mofo PITA getting the whole regulator back in and installed properly. At least I can go to my favorite drive-in diner now.
