Cutting off A/C belt provide heat on windshield?

Hey guys,
Unfortunately I have some major A/C problems with my SD. I am not in need of a/c right now but now I need some heat.
Since the compressor convulses, makes horrible noise, burning up etc, I cannot press the defrost button or the high/low button for heat. If I cut off the belt, will I be able to press those two buttons and get heat to the windshield. I know it won't be mixed with A/C but some heat to the windshield is better than none. Really need some advice. Thank you

you can disable the compressor by either removing the high pressure switch wires or unplugging the compressor relay. no reason to cut the belt unless it is worn or bad anyway

So, just to be clear, you have not depressed the defrost button? If all is working, yes that should give you heat.

Taking the belt off of the compressor will indeed disable the compressor if it is going bad.

Where are the high pressure switch wires and or the compressor relay? I don't know much about A/C

Do as lutzTD suggests. If you want even easier, simply disconnect the one wire to the AC clutch (at the clutch) and have done with it. Why would you want to ruin a perfectly good belt?

If he's hearing a "horrible shreiking noise" I doubt its a perfectly good belt anymore.

That's always a possibility, but since we don't know exactly what's causing the noise - belt slipping or bad compressor bearing or worn clutch material (metal on metal), the compressor should be disconnected.

I agree, either unplug the compressor or cut off the belt. At this point it doesn't make much difference.

To answer the original question, the heat will still work without the AC connected.

Smile Update

Hey guys, I am very please that to say I have full functional heat no matter which button is pressed. No more horrible noises from the compressor. I unhooked to wires in the bottom of the compressor. I will need A/C eventually but with winter coming I am not concerned with it at this time.
Thanks again everyone.

The a/c does make the windshield clear up much faster though. Just a thought.

Oh I know it does. Believe me I wish I was able to fix it. I sweat a lot in the summer so A/C is a very nice luxury I enjoy and will miss if the A/C is not fixed.
