How hard to R+R wiper motor on a 123?

I just bought a 123 sight unseen (yes, I know, cheap mercedes etc...) that needs the wipers fixed. I don't have the car yet and am wondering how hard the motor replacement will be (if that's the problem). I'm sure my 124 and 210 are not the same. Thanks in advance for the help.

take the 2 vent things off

Take the wipers off, and the 2 nuts off the wiper splines

Open hood, there are 6 (i think) plastic rivit fasteners that come off the metal cowl cover, it will hinge up and pull out from under the windsheild seal.

your wiper motor will be revealed.

As Wodnek said. You may want to pick up some new plastic clips.

only if you lose them--usually the ones that get lost down the water drain channels are the two closest to it

wiper motor

I had the same problem with my 123 and i found out the problem was electrical. You might try taking out the fuse and give it a good sanding before you go to the motor. Bill.

I figured I'd check the relay and switch first, if that didn't do anything I'd try hot wiring the motor if that failed I'd replace the motor.

to remove the pins, punch out the centers, and then the outer part will come out.

the vents has a square pin that pushes through pretty easy.
the 4 or 5 for the wipper plate, use a small rount punch to push it in.

when Iam at PNP I usually save those for spares.

Usually they are saveable, but with age the plastic gets brittle.

Can you describe the symptoms you're having? Although it's possible, I think it's unlikely to be the motor.

I have a schematic for the wiper system if you want it.

I've also come up with a "rework" for the wiper relay. It will bring a dead one back to life, and add some features like an "on-the-fly" adjustable wiper speed in the interval position. If your relay turns out bad, this could be an option.

If that would work on a 84 300SD I could really use the info.
Those great bloody blades crashing back and forth drive me crazy. I would really like to slow them down.
Thanks

As far as I've been able to determine, it should work on just about any Mercedes model made between about 1976 and 1985 - both diesel and gas.

As long as you have the 4 position "twist" combination switch for the wipers marked 0-I-II-III, it should work.

PM me an email address and I can send more information. Too big to post....

I bought the car sight unseen. I have been told the wipers don't work at all, I'm just doing some research until I can get my hands on the car.

Hey guys, I don't want to mislead anyone about this. The "rework" I am talking about is stripping the guts out of the existing relay and replacing it with all new circuitry that I've designed and built.

It's not a simple "add wire from point A to point B". It's much more complex than that, and not something the average user could accomplish....

Sorry about that.....
