Water pump 1984 300 CD
I'm replacing my water pump on a 1984 300CD. I bought a water pump from Phil and put it on. It is leaking from the weep holes.
What did I do wrong????? |
Unless you soaked the pump in acetone before installing it, there is not much you can do to cause the shaft seal to fail. Sometimes, all that is needed is a little "break in" period to stop the leak.
|
The water flows like there is no seal in there. Is it possible I got a new bad pump? I hate to have to take it apart again.
Even though I'm getting quicker at it.:) |
Just make sure the leak is from the weep holes instead of anywhere else, could be a bad pump.
|
It is the weep holes. I was adding water to the top radiator hose and noticed water running below so I covered the bottom hole with my finger and it started to come out of the top hole.
|
My vote is for a bad pump. Someone forgot to put the seals in when it was rebuilt.

Well I have managed to borrow a 84 300SD till I can get another water pump from Phil.:D
|
Well I e-mailed Phil and new pump will be here Wednesday.
Phil You Are The MAN! :D He wrote that this is the first time a Geba water pump has been bad. I hope the next one was put together by someone else. |
Well the pump arrived yesterday and I put it on. It took all of 35 minutes. :DThe 300SD I had as a loaner was nice but I am so glad to be back in the 300CD.
Thanks Phil! |
