Crushed 2 of the ECC light bulbs...

While trying to service the ECC unit in my '85 300D I was only able to remove 2 of the 4 light bulbs. The two center ones were fused to the plexi-glass and I had to break the bulbs to the wire harness off.

I believe I found the part number for these little bulbs: 072601012230 and I'm going to order them from Phil.

Question is: how do I fix these light bulbs onto the wire harness - there are no sockets that I can see on these bulbs - do I solder them on there and then shrink wrap over top!?

Thanks,
james

They are generic GE 37 bulbs, also called rice bulbs or pill bulbs. No need to get them through the mail, go to any auto parts store. The white base is the socket.

Yes - took another look at the white base and you're right - that's it.

The same thing happened to me.. I had to get a drill bit and slowly drill the glass (from the light bulb) out of the plexiglass for the new light bulbs to fit properly.

Yes - exactly, I'll need to do that too...

Was hoping the ECC unit would be the culprit in my woes with the A/C - it didn't look like there was anything wrong with it... moving on to the next thing...

Be careful buying those little lamps at the auto parts store, they may be too high of wattage. The proper wattage for those is 1.2 watt.....any higher and the melting of the plastic around the bulb becomes very likely/guaranteed.
