1233 miles- 23 1/2 hours in the Sonic wagon

I left the marina Friday night in Pt Lookout, (long island) NY at 9:00PM. I drove until I needed fuel or food or sleep, then took breaks. I arrived at my house in Wellington , FL (Palm Beach county) Sat at 8:30PM. I usually stop just short of Washington, DC when going north. Going south I do what I did this time- take breaks when needed but no Hotel. This was by far my fastest time. I go about 7 miles over the posted speed limit, sometimes sitting on the tail of a faster car, but not too often. I burned 1/3 of the space between the high and low marks in oil. Another flawless run. I really love the wagon- I can sleep like a stretched out baby in the back- I'm 6' 4". I know that w126's are the highway machine, but a w123 wagon really rocks.

No other w123's sightings, sadly. Weather was windy but clear. Really a quite uneventful trip. Last year I saw about 10 dead deer and one deer strike- this year just one DOA. My biggest fear is hitting a deer. I drive the NY-WADC leg at night to avoid the traffic, but that means lots of deer. Fuel is paid for by the job, as my car is a "company car" when I'm in NY. Now I fly back and drive the boat down- I budget a week for that voyage.

I finished a run last week in my 84 300SD. an hour above Nashville to Charlotte on Sunday. Charlotte to Harrisburg Pa on Monday then Harrisburg to Margate City NJ on Tuesday.
On the train now to boston for a few days since I am tired of driving and its going to be raining the next few days.
Next week its Margate to Richmond Va, then Lynchburg VA, and off to Charlotte again before I head back to Nashville. This time I have to find another route. There was a rock slide in the smokey mtns on the tennessee side of I-40 that shut down the highway for at least 3 months they are saying now. So i guess it will be over the smokies on the back roads.
Averaged between 27 & 28 mpg running around 3300rpm.

It's alright William, I'll forgive you for not stopping by. j/k, sounds like a smooth trip. You could have seen three 123's in my driveway/yard.
