229.5 spec
So the MB spec sheet calls for 229.5 or 229.3 in my 95 E300D. I was thinking of using Amsoil diesel oil 5W30 for the winter here in Chicago but it does not have the 229.5 or 229.3 rating. Not to start a long oil thread again, but does this model year car really need to abide my this spec? I am of the opinion that using any synthetic diesel rated oil is good enough for this motor.
Any thoughts before I plunk down some decent coin with the Amsoil people. |

Your's used Dino oil when introduced. Any syn of appropriate wt ought to be better, even a 3rd Gen syn such as Rotella.
Factory fill on later 606's was M1 0W/40 Euro Blend. Only one Amsoil product line has an API certification iirc; the rest are untested which auto excludes them from MB's consideration.
