auto trans fluid

I just did a search, and wound up more confused than I was about what fluid to use to top up with.
As the sig says, 1984 300D turbo. I think the consensus is Dexron III, but read conflicting answers.
Owners manual says consult dealer, but the locals are friendly, not overpriced (so far), but to get filters and such for this old of a model, I have to tell THEM the part # so they can order it.
Simply, what should I use?

Does your doctor ask you what to write on a prescription? When you go to a restaurant, do you bring a recipe for the cook?

Click the Buy Parts link at the top of the page then click on Fastlane. Phil won't ask you for a part number and won't send you the wrong part.

They haven't been around long enough to remember the old models, and as I don't seem likely to buy a new one, they aren't real helpful.

Sixto-

I would like to, but Phil won't ship to me (check address).

Skippy-

Thanx.

No, but oddly enough, the best Margarita I ever had was one I had to tell the bartender how to make.

Dex III is the correct fluid, but is obsolete. Dex VI is the correct fluid for use in all applications requiring Dex II, III, etc.

Dex VI utilizes more shear-stable basestocks, and is a synthetic blend. It starts off at a slightly lower viscosity, but retains viscosity far better than the older fluids. It really is good stuff, worth the bit more money it costs.
