Bleeding clutch

Replaced clutch assembly and slave cylinder. Could not bleed air out. Noted brake fluid collecting on top of fitting going into slave. Reseated the fitting serveral times. No help. Removed line for inspection. Found chaffed hole under tubing directly over transmission case rib. Soft soldered hole shut. Reinstalled. Still no sucess bleeding. Found both fittings on line had very slight static leaks. Removed line again. Polished both flares with fine emery cloth, then used tooth pick applied a thin coating of sealant to 45 degree flare surface. Reinstalled. No leaks. System then bleed as advertised in about two minutes. The moral: check and recheck that there is not the slightest hint of a leak. Also be aware a faulty slave cylinder can allow air into the system and not leak a drop of fluid. Maybe this post will help someone with this very aggravating issue.

what model is this on? 240D?

I wonder if the solder will hold long term.

I replaced the line with the rubber hose connected to it, that goes to the slave cyl. dealer item, $72.00. this is for a 240.

Bleeding these can be a pain some times.

OH, I guess your name should give me a clue as to model?

Charlie
