Looking at an interesting W123 tomorrow, '85 280ce 5 speed

Yup, a 1985 euro 280ce 5-speed imported to the states in '86. 160k on the car, color matched ronals, nardi steering wheel, french euros, good maintenance history (including a new clutch and shifter bushings in the last year), the drool list keep going. I'm not sure about the clear corners and front spoiler, but that's all easily reversible. The only real problem with the car is the asking price. $7500! No way would I pay anywhere near that. I'm only going to take the amount of cash I'm willing to spend, and hopefully flashing that will motivate the seller, who has been sitting on this car for a very long time. I doubt I'll be bringing this one home, but at least I'll have a fun test drive. I will take better photos.

DUDE GET IT!!!!

I drove Vipercrazys automatic 280CE and it was an extremely fun car to drive. After being in a 280GE I'm now a fan of that engine. Is the transmission factory? Also did AMG do anything with the car or were the body kit and wheels added by a previous owner?

Yes, the transmission is apparently factory. No AMG modifications; the wheels say Ronal on them, not AMG. The previous owner bought the car in Texas the exact way it looks now many years ago.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I won't buy unless he comes down a third or more.

Its kind of in the middle of nowhere, but conveniently close to my parent's lake house. I'm making a relaxing weekend out of it.

It sounds like not a single person has come to test drive it. The owner left the car at his mechanic's and has moved to Nebraska, and that's who I've been communicating with.

Tell you what, test drive it, find out if its alright, and them ship it to me

That front spoiler is goofy looking, IMO. Other than that, that's a sweet looking car. You're right thought...his asking price is ridonkulous...

I'm confident that we'll see another "I bought something" thread in the near future.

Of course, but probably not this one. I would say 1 in 4 chance that its nice enough, and my offer will be accepted. Since the person I'm meeting is merely a go-between, he'll be restrained. Hopefully he can call the seller directly, and is tired of looking at the thing.

If you're serious PM me. I imagine up in the NE a car like this would be worth every bit of that $7500.

yes, that thing in the northeast IS worth every penny asking. you just don't see those around here. heck, you barely see decent diesel w123's.

regardless, that thing is HOT. 5 speed, french euros, etc. and i LIKE the air dam. is that at least AMG? maybe a re-cast AMG look-a-like?

i can't get enough of that 80's aesthetic....

Lawsuit is still in its initial stages.....once I win it I'll be looking for a few good old Benzs and that one would definitely be on interest to me

(A 300CD would be more for my father but this one would definitely be for me....minus that front spoiler and the clear corners)

Do you want to buy the air dam from me if I get it? It might factor into my purchasing decision.

I hope you win.....for good old Benzs sakes.

Now, regarding that 300CD request.........I might be able to help a fellow forum member.

Tyler --- you are straying from the diesels, yet again.
