Diagnosis of failure to start
What's the most likely sequence of things to check on a non-starting diesel? It was running and then quit (300TD). It has been sitting for a while (2-3 months). I replaced the fuel filters and the pump primer. It turns over but doesn't fire. What should I check next?

90% of MB diesel no-start conditions are caused by malfunctioning glow plugs. Troubleshoot the plugs, you can use dieselgiant's troubleshooting procedures.

yeah - what kerry said - you can test the glows with a ohmmeter
air/fuel/compression and glow - if they're all available you should go

Can you elaborate?
Was it running...........then quit.............then would not restart hot? If so, you can rule out the glow plugs as your problem. Got fuel in the tank.........?? |

I would loosen all of the Injector Hard Line Nuts and after the Battery is recharged Crank the Engine until Fuel comes out from under them. Tighten them and attempt to start. Loosening the Fuel Injection Line Nuts also helps to verify why you are not starting. If you are getting Fuel to the Injectors and still not starting you can suspect somethine else like the Glow Plugs. If you are not getting Fuel to the Injectors like you did changing the Fuel Filters look for a Fuel Supply problem; anothe possible is the Fuel Tank Screen being restricted.

Thanks for your input. I'll try these things and see what happens.
