How can you tell if your axle is bad?

1993 W124 300D.

I have replaced the left axle with the torn boot and now the DIFFERENTIAL but I still have the same noise coming from my rear end from a stop.

I also have noticed as it has gotten worse that it makes even more noise when I am turning right.

It isn't the clicking you hear on a FWD car but more of a binding, stuttering noise.

This has been very expensive and time-consuming.

I hope it's the passenger side axle.

It it's not what do you suggest?

Is the boot torn on the pass side? If so, squirt some gear oil into the can, then go for a short drive. If the binding noise stops, your axle joint is dry.

Have you checked your brakes? Maybe one is dragging. How about other rear frame and suspension parts? Check all the connections to make sure they're tight.

I did notice today that the boot nearest the wheel is torn on that axle.

I'll give it some oil and see what happens.
