Injection pump oil change?

So I've been spending alot of time on my old rig and I just noticed a place on the injection pump where you add oil?

Is this right? Never heard of it before, never added/changed oil in the 6 years I've had the car!

How do I drain it? And what kind/how much oil do I add?

I believe it has a constant supply of oil from the engine oil circuit...

not the older models.

you have to drain and refill.

I have to drain and fill on my 73 220D. But this is not the case on later models. Someone with your model will have to tell you if it is a automatic or manual fill.

I think it has a little dipstick. You do have to drain it with the drain plug then fill it again. Not sure on the quantity.

just did this.

drain?

So, did you drain the sucka or did you suck it out with something? I don't have any real suction device, and draining seems tricky...

I stuck a hose down it and sucked it out.

Someone mentioned using a turkey baster but I'm not sure it would go all the way down.

allen head size??

Just got some time to go do this and I realized I don't have an allen wrench big enough to fit this overflow plug. Can someone tell me the size so I can go buy it??

C'mon, what size?

Hey someone who's done this surely knows the allen head size the drain/weep plug takes.....my biggest one is too small and I don't have the shop manual, I can't just to buying allen wrenches willy nilly!

Someone, anyone!

allen size? Still?

Still waiting for someone who's done this to chime in w/ the correct allen head size for the drain/weep nut on the IP. I can't seem to find the answer anywhere!

Mine has a 14mm hex bold head, not socket.

abracadabra 11-23-2009 04:59 PM

hex

Yes, mine isn't socket, I guess I say "allen" head, you say "hex".

thanks for the info!

Lotsa fuel in there, little oil?

So I found the weep plug and proceeded to suck out what I could from the IP.

Well, this hasn't been done the entire time I've had the car, so thats 6 years.

What I found was just a touch of old old gummy black oil, and lotsa diesel fuel. Maybe 80-90% diesel.

I sucked out what I could, added more oil than was suggested (I read to add 1/2 cup, maybe a little more). But still after adding maybe 4 oz. of oil I still didn't see any seep out of the loosened weep plug. So...left it at that, started the car up , its exactly the same.

Is it common for there to be so much diesel fuel in the oil inside there? Seems kind strange!!

weep plug

Also, I had a hard time figuring out where the "weep plug" was, am I correct in finding the 14mm plug on the side of the pump towards the engine? Mine actually has a little bent tube attatched to it .
