84 300SD CLUNKER

Well Iam sad to say, that I saw the first Diesel CLUNKER today at PNP. I thought the vehicles had to get 18mpg or less to qualify. I know these Sd`s do way better than that. maybe they changed to deal along the way, or someone just slpped this one through .

I was checking the inventory of the 2 PNP`s, and they were just setting this row. I was there as they were getting it into place.

Didn`t look all that bad, a little cleaning up in the interior, and eng comartment was surprisingly clean.

think I will go back tomarrow and remove the false firewall, pretty clean from most I have seen.

Enjoy the pictures .

Charlie

A Crime! Wow, that is awful for our Benzes. I can see wanting the $4500 credit; but a benz? Why couldn't it have been Korean or Japanese imported trash?

Someone didn't do his job correctly. That shouldn't be there.

What's with the pink on the engine?

Pink is to let you know the engine is garbage.

It would be interesting to see under the valve cover.

Probably the disclaimer that states the engine is no good; it has had silicate ran through it until it basically turns to glass and hardens in all the oil passages. The transmission will be unusable also...

Iam going back tomarrow, I`ll pull the valve cover and snap a few pictures.

They can be bought, all depends on the paper work and how PNP obtains them. early summer, there was a Ponton in the line, some one was doing a restore on it and gave up. body wasn`t in too bad of shape. had the 4 cyl eng, and the trans was in the trunk.

A guy and his boy inquired about it, they said the paperwork was good, and they could have it for $700. Just had to pay$50 or so for moving and resetting a few cars to get to it. they never did buy it, and it got crushed.

aaahhhh that's hard for me to look at, it's a carbon copy of my car, minus 150,000 miles. So sad.

You could probably get someone in big trouble with those pictures if you tried hard enough, the 300SD did not qualify for the clunkers program, some shady car dealer probably slipped that one through. In fact no MB diesels at all were qualified under the program.

Would be lovely to see both the dealer who signed off on this and the dope who turned it in get their "free money" yanked. Remember that $4,500 discount you got on that new Honda? Yeah ... we're gonna need that back. Sorry. Enjoy your added debt.

There's a bit of morbid curiosity here; I am waiting for pix of the valve cover removed.

That pink spray paint makes me tear up a little.

The great part is that who ever turned it in most likely got a less efficient car. when you take into account the pollution involved in the production of a new car... I'm seeing a net loss for the enviroment.

Peopel who think new things are better only because they are new piss me off.
