220D Clutch pedal wont move?
Went to drive my Benz after it sat for 2 weeks. The clutch pedal is frozen in place. There is no way for me to push it down at all w/o bending the arm.
Slave cylinder? Master Cylinder? any advice would be great, I miss my car Last edited by Colorado220; 11-19-2009 at 11:45 PM. |

Hmmm is there lots of snow in your specific area? With all the moisture the clutch slave could have rusted and frozen the pedal..

That's odd though... so it's as hard as a rock if you try and depress it?

Yup. I don't get it. I backed it into my parents backyard for a couple weeks came back and solid as a rock.... I can shift into all gears w/o issue also... I just don't get it

I did notice a leak from the cylinder in the car onto my floormat. I am guessing that is the culprit.

No idea. You might try loosening the line at the bottom of the master cylinder and push and see if its in the master cylinder....

If the clutch disc were stuck to the flywheel you'd still be able to depress the clutch pedal, so your problem has to be with either one of the cylinders having a mechanical failure, or a throwout bearing / clutch fork issue.
I'd get under the car and start with the clutch slave cylinder bleeder. Crack it loose and press the clutch. If it moves, the problem is with the slave or the clutch fork / throwout bearing. If not, it's the clutch master cylinder.

Wait, can you shift into all gears with the car running? You will normally be able to shift into any gear without it running.

Is it "rock hard" like something is jammed/frozen/rusted/stuck or is it more like there's no place for the fluid to go type "rock hard."?
I woud make sure the pedal can move freely unhooked from the MC. If that's not it, I think you need to crack the bleed screw at the slave cylinder.

I'll probably get blasted for this, but if you're feeling brave you can start the car in first gear and putt putt around the block to see if things will loosen up. Sometimes I have to do this on my '81 240D in the spring when I break it out (albeit for different symptoms). If it doesn't loosen up after a few minutes, just pull it out of gear and shut her down.
Probably worth a try. If you're brave. |
