189,000 miles and no service records...however the radiator was new and the fan gaurd was missing, so at least that's taken care of.

450k.

1) '84 123 Euro with around 450k mi, and the odometer only worked when it was cold. This car is still kicking around Portland.

2) '80 123TD w/330k mi. This car, too, too is being driven regularly in PDX.

3) '87 124 sedan w/374k mi. and a broken odometer. This car is sitting in my driveway. After the head gasket replacement this week, should be good to go for another couple hundred thou.

Jay.

Ours at time of purchase had 207k, 133k, 248k, 221k, 313k, 197k......so the highest running diesel would have been 313k....but the motor had serious issues and was swapped. The one bought with 248k on it ran great and still does....now with 306k on it. Mine was the lowest mileage diesel we've bought, 207k.....now with 284k, running perfectly.

84 300SD, 348K. Bought it for my daily driver (and only car) when the transmission on my Taurus bit the dust. Best decision I ever made. Of course, at the time I didn't realize that I wasn't just buying a car, I was also buying a hobby.

Got my SD with 299K showing, Odo was broken, very little service records, apperantly had a used motor swapped in. No idea on miles of it, or trans, or really the car itself. All i know is its alot! Compressions a bit low, was a year ago when i got it, made it through a harsh Kansas winter and did fine! Only trouble was here a week ago leaving a gas station all i had was 1st gear and reverse. replaced the vaccum modulator and kickdown switch, all is well! I keep it maintained and running well. Its gonna be fun to see how long she goes, im not stoppin till it wont start anymore, then a rebuild and go again! That may be quite a long time! Nobody makes cars this good anymore!

Skippy~ As for perception: Drive what you like and can afford. Those who don't like it can supply vacuum to one of your components. LOL

If you need parts, I have some!

My most recent one(83 240d) had 275k on it when I bought it. So far it seems like the engine is in better condition that my last 300d which I got with about 140k on it. I think that being driven continuously throughout the cars life instead of sitting unused like most low mileage cars have at some point can be preferable if it is maintained properly.

My 1st ,a 79 300td with 389k .Odometer stopped in 01 ,seller said they drove it another 100k with no problems ,then I drove it another 50k .It was well worn but road worthy in 2008 .Im wondering if its still out their gaining more miles ,most likely .It set me on a path of a never ending search for the next one.Im now a proud pappa of 5 300cds and a newly aquired 83 300td.

Looking at your signature obviously you have never owned BMW or VW.

So an '87 300D with good service and 300K+ would not be a crazy thing to do?
Or maybe slightly less crazy than buying any Italian car from the '80s

1991 350SD 510,535 miles. Bought it as a non-running salvage vehicle for parts, ran and drove much nicer than the car who was to recieve the parts. Dead at 535,000 after a 30 MPH offset frontal crash into a tractor trailer.
