617 surging when accelerating

On my 1982 300d turbo the car is surging when I am accelerating. Its not dramatic but I can feel it starting in 2 nd gear all the way up to 4th at highway speeds. I'm thinking it could be the transmission slipping, or the turbo cutting in and out. I did a diesel purge and changed all the fuel filters, but it didn't help. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks.

Typical of low transmission fluid occasionally. Check your fluid level carefully and properly. Simple cure to the surging if lucky. If no major transmission leak has developed that is.

X2. Although low fluid will usually cause slipping off the line into first as well.
