1980 240D- no passenger side-view mirror OK?

So here come my rookie colors again
This car didn't come with a passenger side-view mirror?
Is that OK? meaning....legal?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Jay

I don't know if it's legal or not. My Euro doesn't have one either. It was an option
Haven't been stopped here in AZ yet.

You could buy a US spec 240d without the passenger side mirror. Our family's 1980 was purchased new via European delivery without a mirror and didn't have one for a few years. At the time it was not legally required i believe. Many cars in 1960s and prior didn't have passenger side mirrors.

It may be legal...
but I would not own one without it...
and if I could afford it I would change out my regular mirror passenger's side mirror for a wide angle one...

The thing is that with a 240d you are going to have more people passing you than with the average car... I am just being honest about it...
so it is important that you see what is coming up behind you....

My '71 and '77 lack passenger side mirrors also. It gets a bit annoying in freeway driving, especially if I've been driving a truck and depending heavily on mirrors that day. If I see an appropriate passenger side mirror in a junkyard, I'm snagging it.

What's a wide angle one? And how do I know if I have it? OEM?

China did not come with a passenger side view mirror, and as stated above, I couldn't drive a car without one. Here is where I installed one. Nothing fancy.....

My parents had new cars up to atleast 1985 models without dual mirrors. It is legal, and passes inspection in NJ and IL for sure.

Lots of people drove for lots of years with only one mirror... Just look over your shoulder...

Legal

State Laws required 2 rear view mirrors, since one of them was the interior rear view mirror that let Mercedes Produce many vehicles with out a passenger side mirror. Especially cars produced up into the early 80's... I have seen a lot of 108s, 114/115s and early 123s with out them...
