Can I drive the car with speedo disconnected at trans?
I had a speedometer cable start to go and it is shaking the whole cluster. I disconnected it from the trans. and I have to wait for the cable. Can I drive the car without hurting the trans with it disconnected?

Yup. Not going to hurt anything. I'd disconnect it from the cluster and the trans will never know that the cable is unhooked.

At one time, this was common practice for dealers exchanging new cars prior to sale. Don't know if it's still done or not.

Yeah I want to disconnect it from the cluster but I cant get the cluster out all the way. It is almost out and a metal piece is hanging down just above the gorilla knob. Any tricks? Looks like everyone else just pushes there cluster out but not mine

You can reach up from behind if your hands are somewhat small and unscrew the cable.

I got if off at the speedo and put it back on the trans. Now I will wait for the cable to get here.

Seeing as this problem seems solved, I see it fit to hijack it with a relevant topic.
Really cold out on monday, (after washing the car--stupid idea in winter). Speedometer stopped reading. Maybe just became brittle with the cold and broke? I hope it's not the nylon gears or anything that'd be super annoying.

From what I have read if you saw your needle fluctuating at lower speeds it was prob the cable going. I wish mine would have just broke. It scared my little girl so bad this morning on the way to school she said, dad just pick me up in the land rover. LOL

It was bouncing a bit at low speeds, but I thought that was just an aspect of mechanical speedos? It also took a bit to start working on start up, just like a second. No instrument cluster shaking to speak of though.
