Door lock vacuum linkage
The attached "control rod" can cause door lock problems that you may initially think is vacuum related. The rod attaches to the passenger side vacuum pod (at the bottom) and a cross rod at the top) and allows the door key to open the lock without pushing the vacuum pod up and down.
Pay particular attention to the broken springs in these photos. (one of these springs is broken) If the springs break, this mechanism will cause lock malfunctions. I have heard the springs were at one time available as a separate part, but my local dealer couldn't find that information. The same springs were used on the 450SL control rod. Never-the-less, the rod assembly is relatively inexpensive at $10.60. Its not available aftermarket. There were 3 available nationally at the time of this post. The part number is 123-800-02-80.
