Loud buzzing from behind gauge cluster: relay?
This morning on my way to work, suddenly, a loud buzzing started. It seemed to be coming from behind the gauge cluster, plus my gauges were all jumping all over the place - especially the fuel and temp gauges.
I pulled over immediately, and as I slowed, the buzz got slower and quieter too. I stopped and shut the car off to check it out...nothing I could see gave me any indication of what was happening. I started it back up, and no buzz the remainder of my drive (~20 minutes). Tonight, when I started my car to come home (in the dark), the entire right side of my gauge cluster is dark (the tach, if I can remember right). In reading through old posts, it seems like this might be a faulty relay, or potentially, a bad (or going bad) fuse. Is there a way to test said relay(s)? Other thoughts? TIA...

The first thing that comes to mind is that one of the small light bulbs that provide dash illumination has come loose and is rattling around. I would pull the cluster (easy), disassemble (also easy), and see what's up.

There is no way this is a rattle...it scared the poo out of me. Very loud, a very distinct buzzing.

I don't know of anything electric in the cluster itself that would buzz, but I would start by pulling it out and taking a look at the speedometer (because the buzz was related to speed). I once had a plastic gear in the speedo fail and make quite a bit of noise.

It's a fuse... number 5 or 6 I think.
My car had exact same issue as described. Blown fuse, replaced with a good one, problem gone away and has stayed away.
